How to use a Tangle: follow one joint at a time FindYourFidget · 2026-09-26 Find a connecting joint, change a small part of the shape, and distinguish twisting from pulling pieces apart. Applies to: An intact, connected Tangle. Classic Jr. is the named example: its maker describes 18 hard, smooth curved sections. Other sizes and surfaces may feel different; use their own handling guidance. PREPARE Start with both hands over a clear surface. Identify two neighboring curved sections and the seam between them. Keep the object supported rather than hanging it from one section. Follow the maker’s age guidance for detachable pieces. 1. Find one connection Do: With the Tangle still, choose two neighboring sections. Support one section with one hand and hold the neighboring section with the other, close enough to see their connecting seam. Look for: You can point to the two sections and the join you are watching. If unclear: If several sections are moving at once, reduce the area you are handling. You do not need to flatten or open the whole loop first. 2. Make a small turn Do: Keeping the first section supported, gently turn its neighbor at the connection. Watch the angle between the curves change; do not stretch the two sections away from each other. Look for: The shape changes at the join while the sections remain connected. If unclear: If the join does not move gently or begins to separate, stop. Do not use extra force or a tool to reproduce a pictured pose. 3. Move your attention to the next join Do: Pause, support the new shape, and select an adjacent connection. Make another small turn there. Begin with separate turns so you can see which join changes the shape. Look for: You can identify the second connection you moved, rather than simply squeezing the whole object. If unclear: If the rest of the loop blocks your view or hand, set it down and regrip. Returning to two hands is part of learning the path. 4. Pause and choose your next movement Do: Stop in a supported pose. Try reversing a small turn at the same connection, or choose another joint. Finish by setting down the connected object; you do not need to reproduce its packaged shape. Look for: You can deliberately start, change a joint angle and stop with the sections still connected. If unclear: If a section has come off, put the loose piece aside with the object and use that model’s reconnection instructions before continuing.
